Trip Overview

The Nar-Phu Valley Trek is a short and adventurous journey into one of the remote areas of the Annapurna region. This 9-day trek takes you through the hidden valleys of Nar and Phu, where you can see traditional villages, old Buddhist monasteries, narrow mountain trails, rocky cliffs, and beautiful Himalayan views.

The journey starts with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Besishahar, then continues by shared local jeep to Koto. From Koto, the trail enters the restricted Nar-Phu Valley and passes through Meta, Kyang, and Phu Gaun. You will have a full day to explore Phu Gaun and visit Tashi Lakhang Monastery before continuing towards Nar Phedi and Nar village. The most challenging part of the trek is the crossing of Kang La Pass, which takes you to Nawal.

The Nar-Phu Valley Trek is a good choice for trekkers who want to experience a less crowded Himalayan route in a short time. The combination of remote landscapes, traditional mountain culture, ancient monasteries, and a high mountain pass make this trek a special experience. Universe Himalayan Treks arranges the required permits, guide, accommodation, and transportation for the journey.

Trip Briefing

Nar and Phu are two beautiful mountain valleys in the northern Annapurna region. The area is known for its remote location and traditional Tibetan-influenced culture. Because Nar-Phu is a restricted area, only a limited number of trekkers visit the region each year.

The trail follows an old mountain route through forests, rocky landscapes, deep valleys, and traditional settlements. The villages of Phu and Nar are especially interesting because they still preserve many traditional houses, monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls, and local customs.

This 9-day itinerary is designed for trekkers with limited time who still want to explore the remote side of the Annapurna region. The trek includes an acclimatisation day at Phu Gaun and a challenging crossing of Kang La Pass before reaching Nawal.

Detailed Daily Itinerary

Your Nar-Phu Valley adventure begins with an early morning bus journey from Kathmandu to Besishahar. The drive takes you through Nepal's changing landscapes, with green hills, rivers, small towns, villages, and farmland along the way. After reaching Besishahar, you will continue towards Koto by a shared local jeep. The road becomes more mountainous and rough as you travel deeper into the Annapurna region, so that the journey can take several hours depending on road and traffic conditions.

Koto is an important settlement because it is the entry point to the restricted Nar-Phu Valley. After you reach Koto, your guide will help with the necessary arrangements and explain the plan for the next trekking days. You will stay overnight in a simple mountain lodge. Take time to rest and prepare your trekking equipment, as the walk into the remote Nar-Phu Valley begins the next morning.
