Trip Overview

The Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek is a remote and beautiful trekking journey in eastern Nepal. The trail takes you toward the southern side of Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain at 8,586 meters.

This 13-day trek is a shorter route to the Kanchenjunga region and takes you through quiet mountain villages, green forests, alpine landscapes, glaciers, and the beautiful Yalung Valley.

The journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur and a drive toward Taplejung and Yamphudin. From Yamphudin, the trekking trail enters the remote Kanchenjunga landscape and continues through Tortong, Tseram, and Ramche.

As you gain altitude, the scenery changes from lush forests to open alpine valleys. The trail around Tseram and Ramche offers beautiful views of the surrounding peaks and the Yalung Glacier.

The main highlight of the trek is the hike from Ramche toward Oktang at around 4,730 meters. Oktang is the famous viewpoint on the southern side of Kanchenjunga and provides impressive views of the south face of Kanchenjunga, Yalung Kang, Kabru, Rathong, and the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

The route is remote and less crowded than popular trekking areas such as Everest and Annapurna. Accommodation is mainly in simple local teahouses and lodges, with basic facilities in the higher sections.

The Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek is a challenging journey because of the high altitude, long walking days, steep trails, and remote location. Proper physical preparation and gradual acclimatization are important.

With Universe Himalayan Treks, the trek is organized with experienced guides, transportation, accommodation, meals, permits, and other necessary trekking services. Our team supports you throughout the journey and helps you enjoy the natural beauty and local culture of the Kanchenjunga region.
