Trip Overview

The Everest Three Passes Trek is one of the most comprehensive and challenging trekking adventures in Nepal's Everest region. This journey takes you beyond the standard Everest Base Camp trail and crosses three spectacular high-mountain passes: Renjo La Pass (5,360 m), Cho La Pass (5,420 m), and Kongma La Pass (5,535 m). Along the route, you will experience dramatic Himalayan landscapes, remote valleys, turquoise lakes, glaciers, traditional Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, and some of the finest mountain views in the Khumbu region.

The trek combines several of the most famous destinations in the Everest region, including Namche Bazaar, Thame Valley, Renjo La, Gokyo Valley, Gokyo Lakes, Gokyo Ri, Cho La, Dzongla, Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, Kongma La, Dingboche, Tengboche, and the lower Khumbu villages. From the high passes, you can enjoy extraordinary views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Baruntse, Cholatse, Taboche, and many other Himalayan peaks.

This demanding trek is for travelers who want a deeper Himalayan experience and are prepared for long walking days at high altitude. The route is not only about reaching the three passes; it is also about experiencing the Sherpa culture, Buddhist traditions, mountain hospitality, traditional settlements, yak pastures, glaciers, high-altitude lakes, and remote landscapes that make the Everest region special.

Trip Briefing

The Everest Three Passes Trek begins with a scenic flight to Lukla, followed by a gradual walk through the lower Khumbu region toward Namche Bazaar. After an important acclimatization period, the route heads into the quieter Thame Valley before climbing toward Renjo La. From the pass, the trail descends toward the beautiful Gokyo Valley, where you can explore the famous Gokyo Lakes and enjoy panoramic mountain views from Gokyo Ri.

From Gokyo, the adventure continues over Cho La Pass, one of the trek's most dramatic sections, before reaching Dzongla and the Everest Base Camp area. After visiting Everest Base Camp and climbing Kala Patthar, the route crosses the challenging Kongma La Pass and descends toward Dingboche. The final section passes through Tengboche, Namche, and Lukla before the flight back to Kathmandu.

Because the trek reaches elevations above 5,500 meters, proper acclimatization, physical preparation, and a flexible attitude are important. Weather conditions can affect high-pass crossings and Lukla flights, so that the guide may adjust the itinerary for safety. The reward is an unforgettable journey through some of the most spectacular and remote landscapes in the Nepal Himalayas.
