Trip Overview

The Gokyo to Everest Base Camp via Cho La Pass Trek is an adventurous trekking journey through some of the most beautiful parts of the Everest region. This route combines the peaceful Gokyo Valley, beautiful turquoise lakes, the challenging Cho La Pass, and the famous Everest Base Camp in one unforgettable trek.

The journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. From Lukla, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River through small Sherpa villages and beautiful mountain forests before reaching Namche Bazaar, the main trading center of the Khumbu region.

After acclimatizing in Namche, the trail continues toward the Gokyo Valley through Dole and Machhermo. The landscape gradually becomes more dramatic as you gain altitude. At Gokyo, you can explore the beautiful Gokyo Lakes and enjoy spectacular mountain views.

A major highlight of the trek is the early-morning hike to Gokyo Ri, which offers panoramic views of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and other Himalayan peaks.

From Gokyo, the route continues toward Thangnak before crossing the challenging Cho La Pass at around 5,420 meters. The pass connects the Gokyo Valley with the Everest Base Camp side of the Khumbu region. Snow, ice, steep sections, and cold weather can make this part of the trek demanding.

After crossing Cho La Pass, you continue through Dzongla and Lobuche toward Gorak Shep. From there, the trail leads to Everest Base Camp, one of the world's most famous trekking destinations.

The following morning, you can hike to Kala Patthar for a close, impressive view of Mount Everest and the surrounding mountains. The trek then descends through Pheriche and Namche Bazaar before returning to Lukla.
